Homestead of Mabille family where Guillaume Pelletier and his wife, Michelle Mabille and their family spent part of their lives in Tourouvre, Normandy.  The farm was long known as la Gazerie

In 1987, the property was being used as a tannery.

The entrance to la Gazerie.  The  sign at the edge of the road indicates the tannery (Tannerie ...).  The arrowed sign to the right, says La Gazerie.  This was 1987.

House in the background is typical for the area.

GUILLAUME PELLETIER...  dit LeGobloteur left Tourouvre in Normandy for Canada in the spring of 1641.  First mention of him in Canada is 10-5-1642 at Tadoussac.  Other members of his family who emigrated to Canada are:
Michelle Mabille wife
Guillaume Pelletier son
Jean Pelletier son
Antoine Pelletier brother

The brother, Antoine Pelletier, met a untimely ending when in October of 1647, six weeks after his marriage, his canoe capsized at the Montmorency Falls and he was drowned.

*

On 6-26-1630 in France, Guillaume Pelletier signed an agreement by which he was to acquire, with Jehan Manoury, both charcoal merchants, 106 cords of wood to make charcoal.

Guillaume Pelletier originated from a hamlet called de Bresolettes at Randonnai in the Perche region of Normandy, where he was born around 1595.  This is an area that is rich in the raw material required to make iron ore, and many people were employed in the fabrication of iron, from miners to smelters to blacksmiths.  So it is not surprising that this ancestor would be a charcoal merchant.

Guillaume Pelletier was also a carpenter in Tourouve.  In Canada, he was nominated head of trade unions in 1653.  He was able to sign his name and appears to have been literate.

Much of the information of the Pelletiers life in France comes from the web site:  Programme de recherche sur l'émigration des Français en Nouvelle-France (PRÉFEN) www.unicaen.fr/mrsh/prefen

In 1666, Guillaume Pelletier was listed on the Talon census.  He and his wife were deceased by this time, but their son, ancestor Jean Pelletier married to Anne Langlois, was still living in the area.

Guillaume Pelletier had died in November of 1657 in Beauport, Québec, his wife, Michelle Mabille, died in January of 1665.

In 1681, the family of Jean Pelletier was established at St. Roch-des-Aulnaies in the county of l'Islet.  Many branches of this family populated the Lizotte lines.

The genealogy of it all...

Each indentation indicates another generation, ie: Jean Pelletier is the son of Guillaume Pelletier and Michelle Mabille; Anne Pelletier is the daughter of Jean Pelletier and Anne Langlois, and so on.

A carat (>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor, ie:  Anne Pelletier has two brothers, Jean and Charles Pelletier who are also ancestors.

A double carat (>>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor at the next generational level, ie:  Françoise Lizotte (daughter of Anne Pelletier and Guillaume Lizotte) has a brother, Noël Lizotte, who is also an ancestor.

And so on...
