GASPARD BOUCHER... sold his farm at Mortagne, Normandy on 2-1-1634.  The following year, he and his family would leave France for Canada.  On this voyage Gaspard Boucher and his wife, Nicole Lemère would bring their five children: Pierre the eldest, Nicolas, Marie, Marguerite and Madeleine.  All had been baptized in Mortagne.

In July of 1634, Gaspard Boucher was present at a contract drawn up by Notary Boussel of Mortagne which involved Jean Pelletier de Brésolettes.  The Pelletiers are also ancestors, mostly in my father's line.

In France, Boucher was a master furniture maker.  He was also literate.  The baptisms of  his children indicates a family life among the minor functionaries and land owners of the villageFor instance, the godparents of the two girls who are part of my ancestry, were:

for Marie, who was baptized 1-22-1629, the honorable Claude LiVache, sieur de la Rivière and dame Suzanne Roumet, wife of the honorable Jean Alleboust, sieur de la Bouessière, lawyer for the district of Perche.

for Marguerite, who was baptized 7-28-1631, they were the honorable Alexandre Aubin, sieur de Nimerville and dame Marguerite Forcadel, wife of Alexandre Aubin.

There were many Bouchers in the area, and they appeared to be property owners who educated their children in the fundamentals of the day.

Information on the baptisms is taken from the website Programme de recherche sur l'émigration des Français en Nouvelle-France (PRÉFEN) www.unicaen.fr/mrsh/prefen

In 1634, the settlement of Canada was under the authority of a French company, known as The 100 Associates These were businessmen who ventured capital into the fur-trading enterprise in the hopes of commercial profits.  The King of France sanctioned this activity with the stipulation that settlers be brought to Canada.  To satisfy the King and minimize economic losses, the company resorted to the granting of subfiefs in Canada to 'seigneurs' (overlords) who were required to bring settlers.  The first such grant was made in 1634 to Robert Giffard who brought out workmen and farm laborers.  This bit of history was taken from the book, "France in America" by W. J. Eccles, p. 34.

When Gaspard Boucher arrived in Canada with his wife, his children were as follows:
Pierre Boucher dit Grosbois, age 12
        Nicolas, age 9
ancestor, Marie married to Etienne LaFond, age 5
ancestor, Marguerite married to Toussaint Toupin, age 3
        Madeleine, an infant.

Gaspard and his wife were both 40 when they arrived in Canada, and they had no children after Madeleine.

In Canada, Gaspard Boucher was a carpenter, master furniture maker and a laborer.  He was hired by the Jesuits to work on their farm at Notre-Dame-des-Anges.  It has been affirmed that the religious took over the children's education, and in particular that of son, Pierre, who became prominent in the early history of New France.

Gaspard Boucher and his family came to settle at Trois-Rivières early in 1646.  On 3-21-1646, the governor made him a land grant of 24 acres situated between the lands owned by Jean-Paul Godefroy and Étienne de La Fond, who in January 1645 married Marie Boucher, one of Gaspar Boucher's daughters.

On 11-24-1647 he signed the marriage contract of ancestors, Antoine DesRosiers and Anne LeNeuf du Herisson.

Gaspard Boucher was burned in his house sometime before 1666.  He died sometime between 5-20-1662 and the census of 1666, likely in the fire at his home.

The genealogy...

Each indentation indicates another generation, ie: Marie Boucher is the daughter of Gaspard Boucher and Nicole Lemère; Jean LaFond is the son of Marie Boucher and Étienne LaFond, and so on.

A carat (>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor, ie:  Marie Boucher  has a sister, Marguerite Boucher who is also an ancestor.

A double carat (>>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor at the next generational level, ie:  Jean LaFond (son Marie Boucher and Étienne LaFond) has a sister, Genevieve LaFond who is also an ancestor.
